Guide for contractors
Google Reviews Not Showing
A Google review can go missing for a handful of reasons: it’s still being checked (that can take a few days), it was removed for breaking Google’s policies, your profile was just merged, or the customer hit a technical snag posting it. Your star rating can also take up to 2 weeks to catch up.
Here are the reasons Google itself lists, and what to do about each one.

The reasons Google gives
- The review is still being checked. Google screens reviews against its policies, which can take a few days and delay a review from appearing (Google’s help).
- It was removed for a policy violation, like spam or inappropriate content. Google says that’s the usual reason, and those reviews won’t be restored (Google’s help).
- The spam filter got it wrong. Google uses automated spam detection, and it occasionally removes legitimate reviews by mistake; Google says to contact support if that happens (Google’s help).
- You recently merged two profiles. Reviews from both can take a few days to show on Search and Maps (Google’s help).
- The customer is on an older phone or an old version of Maps. They may have had trouble posting; Google recommends updating the Maps app (Google’s help).
- The customer wasn’t signed in to a Google Account. They need one to leave a review, and it can be set up with a non-Gmail address (Google’s help).
- Reviews are turned off for your category or profile. Google may temporarily disable reviews for some profiles or business categories, and reviews are only available in certain countries and categories (Google’s help).
- Your profile was just reinstated after a suspension, and some reviews were removed in the process. Google says to contact support (Google’s help).
And if it’s your rating that won’t budge: Google says it may take up to 2 weeks for the score to update after a new review (Google’s help).
What to do, step by step
Give it a few days
A fresh review may still be under review. Don’t ask the customer to post it again right away: Google’s policy prohibits posting the same content multiple times.
Have the customer check on their end
Are they signed in to the right Google Account? Is their Maps app up to date? Does the review show in their own contributions?
Check your profile
A recent merge, a reinstatement after suspension, a category change: Google lists each of these (Google’s help).
Contact Google support
If a legitimate review vanished after the spam filter or a reinstatement, that’s the route Google recommends.
What you can’t do: get Google to bring back a review it removed for a policy violation. Google says those aren’t restored.
How to keep real reviews from getting flagged
Some habits make genuine reviews look fake, and Google’s policy targets them directly: unusual volumes or patterns of reviews, reviews from employees or family (conflict of interest), and wording you scripted for the customer.
- Ask each customer as jobs wrap up, instead of blasting fifty old customers on the same afternoon.
- Don’t ask family or your crew for reviews.
- Let customers write in their own words. No sample review to copy.
- Send the direct link to your review box, from your own phone. Our free Google review link generator gets it for you.
