Google Reviews on WhatsApp

To ask for a Google review on WhatsApp, send the customer a short message from your own WhatsApp account, in the chat you already have with them, with their first name and your direct review link. They tap the link and Google’s review box opens.

Straight talk: for most US customers, a regular text is the better default. Plenty of Americans don’t use WhatsApp at all, and the ones who do usually still read their texts. WhatsApp is worth it when the customer already reached you there.

When WhatsApp is the right call

  • The customer contacted you on WhatsApp. They sent photos of the leak or the breaker panel there. Your review request lands right under that conversation.
  • The customer prefers it. Some customers live on WhatsApp and barely check texts.
  • You run your business on WhatsApp Business and that’s where your customer conversations already are.

Otherwise, send a text. The right channel is whichever one the customer already talks to you on.

How to send it

  1. Get your direct review link

Use our free Google review link generator and keep the link handy.

  2. Mention it at wrap-up

“I’ll send you the Google review link on WhatsApp.” One line, no pressure.

  3. Send it the same day, in the existing chat

Not a new number, not a broadcast list: the chat where you already talked about the job.

  4. Follow up once at most

If they haven’t tapped it after a few days, one short reminder, then drop it.

Three WhatsApp messages to copy

WhatsApp 1 — in the job chat

Hi [First name], thanks again for today. Here’s the link I mentioned for a Google review on the job: [link] It really helps people around here find us. – [Your name]

WhatsApp 2 — mentions the job

Hi [First name], it’s [Your name] about the [job]. Everything working OK? If you have two minutes for a Google review, here’s the link: [link] Thanks!

WhatsApp 3 — gentle reminder

Hi [First name], just a quick reminder, no pressure: here’s the Google review link if you get a minute. [link] [Your name]

Same rules as any other channel

WhatsApp doesn’t change Google’s rules (Google’s policy): nothing in exchange for a review, no asking only the happy customers, no pressure. Ask everyone the same way, and they write what they want. Don’t add customers to a group or broadcast list to ask; send one message, one customer.

In Own Your Ratings, WhatsApp is one of the channels: pick it, and the app opens WhatsApp on the chat with that customer, message written, link included. You tap Send from your own account, and Own Your Ratings shows you whether they clicked.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need WhatsApp Business?

No. Your regular WhatsApp account works. Business adds a company profile, but you don’t need it to send a link.

WhatsApp or text?

Whichever one the customer already uses with you. In the US, that’s usually a text.

Does the customer need a Google account?

Yes, Google requires being signed in to post a review. Most people already are on their phone.
