Google Reviews for Electricians
Electrical work is mostly invisible once it’s done: the wiring is behind drywall and the panel door is closed. So ask for the Google review at the moment the customer can see the result, when the lights come back on, the charger shows green, or the inspector signs off.
Here’s when each kind of electrical job ends, who to ask, texts to copy, and the Google rules that apply.

Find the moment the customer can see the result
- Service call (dead outlets, tripping breaker, flickering lights). Flip the circuit on with the customer in the room. That is your moment.
- Panel upgrade or service change. There’s usually a utility disconnect and an inspection. The job ends for the customer when the power is back on and the permit is closed, not when you finish the terminations. If the inspection is days later, ask when you text them it passed.
- EV charger install. It ends when their car starts charging. Many customers will plug in while you’re still there, and that’s the time to ask.
- Lighting and fixtures. Recessed lights, a ceiling fan, under-cabinet LEDs. Ask after you turn them on together. People like to show off a room that looks better than it did that morning.
Who to ask
Usually the homeowner who called. On a remodel you may have been hired by a general contractor, and in a rental by a property manager. Ask whoever you dealt with on the job. Each of them had a real experience with your business.
Ask every customer the same way. Google prohibits selectively asking for positive reviews and offering anything in exchange for one (Google’s policy). That rules out “five stars gets you ten percent off the next job.”
How to ask, step by step
Ask while the lights are on
One sentence while you clean up: you’ll text a link, and a Google review helps people nearby find a licensed electrician they can trust.
Text from your own number
The customer saved your number when they booked. A text from it gets opened; a text from a short code they don’t recognize gets ignored.
Name the job
“The new 200-amp panel,” “the charger in the garage.” It shows you remember them and which visit this is about.
Follow up once
If there’s no click after a few days, one short reminder. Then move on.

After a service call
Hi [First name], glad we got the [outlets / breaker] sorted today. If you have a minute, a Google review of the visit would really help: [link] Thanks, [Your name]
After a panel upgrade
Hi [First name], good news: the inspection passed and your new panel is all set. When you get a chance, here’s the link for a Google review of the job: [link] [Your name]
After an EV charger install
Hi [First name], hope the car is charging fine. Text me if anything looks off. Would you leave a Google review of the install? [link] [Your name]
What not to do
- Don’t ask only after the smooth jobs. Ask after all of them.
- Don’t offer a discount, a free outlet or a gift card for a review.
- Don’t write the review and ask the customer to post it. It has to be in their words.
- Don’t send a link to a Google search. Send the direct review link.

Frequently asked questions
Should I wait for the inspection before asking?
For permitted work, waiting until it passes is often better: that’s when the job is truly done for the customer. Text them the news and the link together.
Can I ask commercial customers for Google reviews?
Yes. A facilities manager or business owner who dealt with you can review your business like anyone else. The same rules apply: no incentives, no selective asking.
Does Own Your Ratings send texts from a shared number?
No. It opens Messages on your own phone with the text ready. You send it from your number.
