Google Reviews for House Cleaners

Most house cleaning clients aren’t home when the job ends. They walk in that evening to a clean house. So the review request is almost always a text, timed for when they get home and see it, sent from your own phone with your direct Google review link.

Here’s when to ask for each kind of clean, how to handle recurring clients, texts to copy, and the Google rules to follow.

When a cleaning job really ends

  • First clean or deep clean. This is the visit with the biggest visible change, and often a new client deciding whether to book again. Ask after this one.
  • Move-out or move-in clean. The client is busy with the move and may hand the keys to a landlord the next day. Ask the same day you finish, while they still care how it went.
  • Recurring weekly or biweekly clean. The house looks the same as last time, which is the point. Ask once, after a few visits, not every time.
  • Post-construction or one-off clean. Ask when you finish, with a photo of the result if the client isn’t there.

If the client is out, send the text in the late afternoon or early evening, around when they usually get home, rather than mid-morning when they are at work and won’t see the house for hours.

Who the client is

Usually the person who booked and pays, often someone juggling work and kids. Sometimes a landlord or property manager books a turnover clean, or an adult child books for an elderly parent. Ask whoever dealt with you. If you only ever talked to the person who booked, ask them.

Ask every client the same way. Google prohibits asking only happy customers for reviews, offering a discount or a free clean for one, and asking reviewers to include specific content (Google’s policy). So no “mention our name and the oven!” in your request.

Recurring clients: ask once, at the right time

A recurring client is your best reviewer: they chose to keep you. But asking every visit is annoying. A simple rule:

  1. Wait a few visits

Let the service settle in. By then the client knows what they get each time.

  2. Ask once, by text

From your own phone, the number they text about reschedules and door codes.

  3. Keep track

Note that you asked so nobody on your team asks the same client again next week.

  4. Don’t push

One reminder at most. If they don’t review, they don’t. Keep cleaning well.

Frequently asked questions

Can my cleaners ask clients for reviews?

Yes, if they are the ones the client talks to. Give everyone the same wording and the same link, and don’t set review quotas for staff: Google’s policy lists asking staff to solicit a set number of reviews as an example of what it doesn’t allow.

Can I give a discount on the next clean for a review?

No. Google prohibits offering anything in exchange for a review (Google’s policy).

What if the client is never home?

Text them. Time it for when they are likely home to see the result, and include a photo if you have one.
